Criminal Justice club is one of the many pre-professional clubs that are offered around the school. Sponsored by Mr Carnes in room K219, the club allows students a fun and safe environment to be introduced into the world of law.
“Here the students run the club, so they can pick the activities and competitions. So their work can vary from case studies, to room clearing, report writing, handcuffing, and other law skills.” Carnes explained. “In past years, we’ve done public service projects as well.”
The club tries to connect real world applications and gives students positive interactions with Law Enforcement Officers so students can get a better understanding of the career path. “From time to time police officers and servicemen visit and explain the branch they chose to serve in to students to encourage students to think of a path for the future,” according to Carnes.
While some certifications can be earned through the club, the only school approved certification, the emergency telecommunication certification, can be earned by passing law enforcement II. “It’s a good certification to have for those looking to be a dispatcher,” Carnes said.
The club meets typically every Wednesday after school, for more information on the club’s whereabouts. Mr. Carnes can be found in K219 or email questions to: [email protected].
