The Creative Storytelling Club is holding a book donation drive until February 18th. Books must be school appropriate and in decent condition.

Students can either give books to their English teacher, or the book donation bin that resides in between the trophy cases in the main office.

English 4 teacher, Ms. Saenz, incentivizes book donations by giving extra credit to students in her class who submit books to her room. Five books are equal to one point, with a maximum amount of five points, students can donate 25 books to get an additional five points to their English grade.

James Arellano, Editor

James Arellano has been a part of the Advocate team since 2022 and has been the editor since 2023. Being a creative writer, he chose journalism for the independence of writing an article about anything around the school. In 2023, He interviewed the once popular “NoContextJMHS” instagram account before the original owners graduated. Aside from school writing, James co-writes for a local half-music-half-skateboarding magazine, Double Homicide. Through this he has managed to interview popular bands in the punk and metal scene, to hosting local skateboarding competitions, He has been able to help carve a small name in the San Antonio scene. Being his second year as newspaper editor, his job is mainly with uploading other reporters’ stories. However he is more than enthusiastic to cover clubs and organizations, along with features about happenings at the school. He hopes to take all the knowledge gained from the past 3 years in the classroom and apply it to real world journalism, pursuing a side job in reporting as well as being a forensic photographer.
