Last Wednesday, The DECA club went to the Schertz Civic Center to compete in their competitive events. At the end of the day, Three students came home victorious, winning in their respective event.
Sophomore Skylar Bogholtz won the Sports and Entertainment Marketing Series, Derick Tena won the Personal Financial Literacy series, and Senior Elizabeth Ahmadpour won the Apparel and Accessories Marketing series.
One of the winners is DECA student Vice President, Elizabeth Ahmadpour, was surprised to win her event, but she never once questioned her confidence or her knowledge. “I’m really surprised that I won, I didn’t do so good on the written portion, but I had a lot of confidence and retail knowledge that was able to get me the win.” Ahmadpour revealed.
The Vice President isn’t phased by the big state label, she plans on studying hard to secure this win, state is only the first step for her. “I know the judges are going to be more strict at state but I’m still confident. I’m definitely going to have to study harder and dress better. But I haven’t lost any certainty, I know I just need to perform better,” Ahmadpour explained.
Ahmadpour’s goals go past the state competition, she ambitiously hopes to be the first DECA member to make it to nationals during Mr. Valverde’s second year of teaching at Madison. “He’s been teaching here for a year and a half, so this win would be huge for both of us,” Ahmadpour confessed.
The other winners are just as ambitious and excited as the Vice President is. First time competitor, Derick Tena, decided to take on a business event to prove himself to the club sponsor. “I won to prove to Mr. Valverde that I can make it to state, Now I’m going to prove that I can win in state,” Tena declared.

The qualifiers are now preparing to go to the DECA state competition in Dallas from March 6th-8th. All three intend on coming home with another trophy in their hands.
